Ben has been teaching guitar privately since 2010 alongside his performing and session career. Over that time he has worked with players ranging from complete beginners through to university-level musicians, helping students build strong fundamentals, stylistic awareness and real-world musical confidence. While his background includes formal grade preparation (Grade 1–8) and support with university applications, Ben’s approach is rooted firmly in practical musicianship — focusing on the skills that actually translate into professional playing situations.Alongside one-to-one work, Ben runs HIQ Backing Tracks on YouTube and has published instructional material on modern improvisation concepts, including approaches to diatonic and non-diatonic soloing over more advanced harmony. He is currently developing further written material aimed at advancing players and aspiring professionals, with a particular focus on the often-overlooked non-musical skills required for sustainable careers in the industry.Ben works with a limited number of students via Zoom and prioritises committed players who are serious about long-term development. If interested, please enquire via the application form below with details of your current playing level, goals and availability.
